Painting at Wildwood, I decided to use watercolors by back packing with my paper, ink tense pencils and reusable peach cup for holding water. For me, watercolors are a definite challenge especially with ink tense ones since every color you put down is permanent.
Looking around, I started drawing an unsuspecting woman reading a book. Like me, she looked comfy doing what she likes to do best on a sunny beach. The thing is you really never know how much time you have when painting people in various poses so sketching quickly helps. To compensate, I've learned to take photographs on site when referencing back at home to finish the painting.
At home, I chose to add oil pastels to the top of the watercolors emphasizing more colors and shadows in the composition.
