IN ADMIRATION OF RENOIR, I PAINT WITH PASTELS
by building layers of bold colors, heavy strokes and textured shapes to create in-the-moment, documented scenes. I especially love the challenge of integrating colors to represent the color black. Black isn’t black unless you’ve added deep blues, greens, purples, oranges – anything that gives me that satisfaction of seeing limitless black hues on my canvas. Plus, as a true pastelist, I forgo the popular finger smearing of colors.
