This close to home composition was a new technique for me. By adding pastels and strategically brushing with denatured alcohol to only the bottom layer, they rapidly blend, melt and dry together. Also, with a brand new box of Terry Ludwig pastels, it was possible to paint consistently in square, long strokes building up the multiple layers.
I finally figured out why terry sends you a paper with numbers in it! It's so you can keep track of what colors are in the box and how they look as a reference.
